Since Lo Scarabeo’s announcement last spring regarding the arrival of this oracle deck, I immediately felt a warm thrill at the mere expectation that a divination tool focusing on the Goddess Temple of Avalonian tradition would finally be created.
As you may know, in 2019 I began my powerful and profound journey as Priestess of Goddess and of Avalon at the Glastonbury Goddess Temple in the United Kingdom, the first Temple dedicated to Goddess to be legally recognised after 2000 years of history, and by whose tradition and philosophy this oracle deck is inspired. So you will understand my excitement in feeling it flow through my hands at last.
But that’s not all: this important divination tool is doubly special. The Goddess Temple Oracle Cards have in fact been conceived and written by the wonderful Sarah Perini, Priestess of Avalon and Founder of the Turin Goddess Temple, a renowned Italian institution inspired by the Avalonian tradition and the Great Italic Goddess Diana. I had the pleasure of attending several seasonal rituals and formative meetings with Sarah, a true beacon of archaeo-anthropological culture, wisdom, and passion for all women and men who wish to set out on the path of Goddess.
As soon as I opened the deck, I was immediately fascinated by the ethereal, dreamlike, and meaningfully symbolic illustrations drawn by the talented Elena Albanese, co-creator and mastermind of this deck, which leave the right space for meditation and imagination, and transport the reader into the Otherworld that lies beyond the mists of Avalon.
But let’s get into the details of this wonderful deck… without too many spoilers 😉
The accompanying booklet is very informative, and includes an introduction that conveys with simplicity and clarity the philosophy and concept behind Avalon’s Wheel of the Year and its Goddesses, created thanks to the reconstruction and intuition of Kathy Jones, Founder of the Glastonbury Goddess Temple and its Avalonian tradition.
The structure of the deck itself is very interesting, and consists of 5 sets: 9 cards of the Goddesses of the Wheel, one for each season plus the Lady of Avalon at its centre; 4 cards of the Archetypes of the Sacred Feminine, Maiden, Lover, Mother, and Crone; 4 cards of the Archetypes of the Sacred Masculine, Young, Lover, Creative, Wise; 4 cards of the Four Temples, Air, Fire, Water, Earth; and finally 24 cards of the Cauldron of Transformation, a true journey through the symbols, meanings, and synchronicities of Goddess.
What are the cards that thrilled me at first glance? Which ones gave me goosebumps at the first touch? Many, of course! But I would like to mention three in particular. The Lady of Avalon, flame of wisdom, transformation, and absolute love, ethereally dressed in a blue veil like a starry sky and with a divine spiral on her womb. The Water Temple, in its lunar landscape, sacred, and splendidly rooted in the ancient traditions of lake and spring sanctuaries. Blessing, depicting a winged, horned fairy in the moment of blowing her own breath of healing and inspiration through the thick of the woods.
